Yoga is one of the oldest systems of personal development in the world. This system of balancing the body, mind and spirit was formulated by the ancient yogis, who understood man’s essential nature, and realised a way to utilise all of man’s inner resources to live in harmony with himself and his environment. Iyengar Yoga has been developed over the last 60 years by Mr B K S Iyengar, a world-renowned teacher and a leading authority on yoga who has written several textbooks which have become yoga classics. It is his specialised teaching and guidance which inspires the practice of what we now call the Iyengar System. This system is both dynamic and challenging, based on classical yoga postures. It is performed with precision and attention to detail. One of the features which sets Iyengar Yoga apart from other methods is the unique way in which he has devised props to aid the practitioner towards achieving a solid base and good alignment in the postures, both of which are essential for maximum benefit from the practice. Men and women of all ages can benefit from Iyengar Yoga. It is practised by millions worldwide to maintain good health. Regular practice can bring about physical, mental and emotional equilibrium.
